
Process Safety Engineer
Puropose
The EHS Technical Support/NPI Lead, will analyze EHS Aspects for assigned processes or technologies, evaluate process related EHS risks recommending mitigation actions as needed. Interacting with site EHS personnel, as well as other internal or external teams as appropriate, this experienced individual will develop or validate EHS risk Assessment reports and determine need for additional actions to mitigate EHS impacts.
The ideal candidate will have solid technical and scientific background and/or pharmaceutical plant experience
Responsibilities
- Gain knowledge of industrial practices, Best Available Techniques (BAT), and trends. Share this knowledge with peers, and management.
- Review/Conduct on the field EHS Risk/Gap Assessment for key programs (Process Safety OH/Containment, Environmental BAT, N2 safety, ATEX/Dust Explosion,) process hazard analysis and quantitative risk analyses to identify high risk operations and determine needed additional layers of protection.
- Represents global EHS on assigned Tech Transfer or Capital Projects and provide input for divisional or site Requests for Capital Appropriation Requests (CAR)
- Ensure that significant EHS aspects are properly integrated during the entire Front-End Planning Design Process for new product introduction, during the Product-transfer from site to site and R&D to site and ensure changes/upgrades to existing processes and equipment.
- Prepare EHS Hazard Screening for Tech transfer. Lead EHS Management of Change Process.
- Conduct/participate in on site audit, to ensure that on assigned program, site comply with applicable EHS requirements and corporate policies, utilize best-industrial practices and best available techniques (BAT) to identify and manage risk, and conform to company directives and standards.
- Collect site metrics, develop site dashboard for key programs assigned. Monitors EHS improvement of assigned processes. Participate in the in the identification of need for additional safeguards. May supervise on project other internal or external EHS technicians.

Qualifications
- Master degree or PhD in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or other science related or technical field preferably in Life sciences, pharmacy or engineering.
- experience in the pharmaceutical and/or chemical industries in manufacturing/R&D environments
- EHS Professional certification (Italian ASSP or RSPP) is preferred.
Experience:
- Experience in a process safety and in a technical EHS discipline such as potent compounds/occupational hygiene, environmental control/BAT is required.
- GHS classification
- Positive record of accomplishment of establishing and maintaining effective relationships with internal, external clients and customers.
- Demonstrated ability to negotiate with peers, and customers, is required.
- Strong problem-solving skills,
- Technical expertise in implementing EHS programs and/or plant level experience.
- Technical expertise in pharmaceutical or FDA-regulated industry.
- Ability to influence, motivate and empathize with peers, supervisors, middle management and vendors to meet the business EHS goals.
- Personal skills to facilitate the work in cross-functional team environment.
- Sound judgement and problem-solving skills, communication skills including English, excellent interpersonal and consulting skills, good organizational and computer skills, and positive customer orientation.
- Self-starter with ability to complete work independently as well as successfully lead others if needed.
- Works well with other technical staff in a collaborative, fast-paced goal-driven environment
